The 4 Pattern

Video
1.6.3 - Jubilate Deo.pdf

The basic meter for the 4 pattern is 4/4. It may also be used in 4/2, 4/4, 2/4, 4/8, 2/8, and 12/8.

Beating 4 involves landing the second beat to the left – or inwards from – the downbeat. The hand then moves across the body – outwards – to strike the third beat on the right. The rebound continues right but then stops and retraces its path to create the fourth beat. A simple description is: down, left, right and up.

Using a 4 pattern, conduct the following canon, “Jubilate Deo” by Praetorius.
