Passive Beats

Video
2.1.2 - Nearer, my God, to thee.pdf

Conduct the first verse of the hymn “Nearer, my God, to thee”. The music includes other places where you can use passive beats. Whenever you’re just marking time your beats should be passive, ie. during the sustained notes in bars 4, 8, and 16.
For practice, at the beginning, show the passive third beat before the active 4th beat (upbeat).

Note that when you are using a music stand:
i) it should be low enough to accommodate your beat plane
ii) it should be either flat or slightly tilted towards you
