Legato and Staccato

Video
1.6.6 - Ode to Joy.pdf

To show legato, the beat and rebound are smoother and more curved - like gentle strokes with a paintbrush. To show staccato or marcato, the beat becomes straighter and the rebound more angular.
Conduct this melody, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”, practising going back and forth between legato and staccato.
