Left Hand Independence

Video

Cueing is a motor movement that must be learned and practised until automatic. The next four exercises will help you develop familiarity with the various movements you’ll need. Once you’re comfortable with these movements and they’re beginning to feel automatic, the exercises that come next will have you applying them in actual music.

Exercise
First, a preparatory exercise. Conduct a 4 pattern with your right hand. Hold your left hand absolutely still on the beating plane. Don’t let it bob up and down with the beat or move at all.
