Basic Posture

Video

Posture is not just about physical efficiency. Proper posture projects the conductor’s self-confidence to the ensemble. Performers need to read self-assurance and leadership in a conductor, qualities they are less likely to project if their posture is poor. So it’s critical for beginners to devote time and energy to developing really good posture and making it a habit, the default setting. Use a mirror to check your posture.

Suggested further systems: Students of conducting can benefit from studying one of various scientifically-based systems for learning conscious, corrective control of the body. They all share approaches to correct breathing, balanced posture and proper use of the body.

These systems include:
● Alexander Technique
● Feldenkrais Method
● Mensendieck System
● Yoga
● Tai Chi
● Pilates
