On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese Association for Music Education (APEM), Professor Cristína Brito da Cruz, Director of the Kodály Centre of Portugal compiled a significant study on the most outstanding music education movements in Portugal including an overview of the adaptation of the Kodály - concept as well.

Initiatiated and supported  by APEM and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (FCG), in the study (https://repositorio.ipl.pt/handle/10400.21/15376) brief chronologies are presented of the beginnings in Portugal of the Edgar Willems Method, the Orff Schulwerk and the Kodály Concept of Music Education, references are made to Portuguese people whose training and action were central to the local dissemination of these methods. Schematic comparisons between the three pedagogues - biographical and professional data - and generic comparisons between aspects of the methods: principles, objectives, target audience, activities, type of repertoire, concepts are discussed and a reference bibliography is provided.
