Off-beat Entries

Video
4.3.3 - Beidh Aonach Amárach.pdf

When the entry of a part is off-beat or between beats, you treat it the same way as you treat an off-beat anacrusis, i.e. with a slightly stronger ictus and rebound. Subdividing may seem like an obvious solution, but it usually makes the entry less clear.

For example, in “Beidh Aonach Amárach”, although your preparatory beat is the preceding beat as usual, you need to give it a sharper impulse. And because the tempo is quick, you need to give a passive 3rd beat to help your singers know precisely when to start.

Conduct “Beidh Aonach Amárach” showing the off-beat entry of each phrase.
