Advent with great predecessors
Works by Liszt, Bartók, Kodály, Kistétényi and György Kurtág
The Kodály Institute, which opened 1975, is the renowned international music pedagogy workshop of the Liszt Academy based on Kodály’s concept of music education. The Institute’s mission is to preserve the intellectual legacy of Zoltán Kodály, the composer, music educator and musicologist, and to uphold the renowned Hungarian chorus tradition at the highest level. The essence of this multifaceted mission is captured in the matinee concert, which features works by Kodály, the Institute’s namesake, alongside pieces by Liszt, Bartók and György Kurtág relating to the Advent season. These are complemented by compositions by the legendary music educator and polymath, Melinda Kistétényi, thus completing the list of the most important predecessors and role models for the Kodály Institute. The concert will open with an introduction by Judit Rajk, Director of the Kodály Institute.
